Ambassadors FC v Gilford Crusaders

Tuesday 4th May 2010

Kernan Playing Fields

After a disappointing result on Saturday against Lurgan Institute, Ambassadors FC knew that if they were to stand any realistic chance of promotion then three wins from our last three games was a must.   Cooke shared at the beginning telling us that we have three games left of the season, lets do what we enjoy and play football!

The team remained the same from that which started on the Saturday.  Ambassadors FC didn’t take to long to get started and from early on, it was clear to see Ambassadors FC wanted to play some football tonight.  The early dominance paid off and some good play down the right found the ball at Johnny Stewarts feet on the edge of the box and he hammered in goal number one of the night.  More goals were to follow shortly after, Irwin was next on the score sheet with a cool finish low and into the bottom corner.  Chud then using his pace and skills scored a quick fire hat trick that had Ambassadors 5 -0 up and cruising.  In amongst scoring the goals Ambassadors were keeping possession, passing freely and the movement was good, at one point Ambassadors kept the ball for upwards of 15 passes, it for the first time in a while was good to watch.  The half wasn’t finished and Irwin managed to score his second of the night keeping his cool and slotting past the keeper with a composed finish. 6 – 0 at halftime.

The second half seen Ambassadors make three changes, and almost instantly one of the subs was on the score sheet.  Phil Massey showing both his pace and strength as he charged past the Gilford defence and brilliantly lobbed the ball over the on rushing goalkeeper.  Two minutes later and he was in again this time side footing the ball passed the keeper scoring two goals in quick succession.  The score was 8 – 0 and now Ambassadors FC had started to take their foot of the pedal.  This allowed Gilford to score 2 goals, one from the penalty spot in which Cooke was unfortunate.  The game finished some what short but with a score line of 8 – 2, one down two to go, promotion still a glimmer of hope?
